I had some scary stuff happened on Tuesday. First I picked myself up and went to a presentation at 9 that morning. Almost fell down during it. I was so weak. But made it through and then went to my doctor’s appointment. The doc gave me four new meds and sent me home. So knowing that they would make me tired I put on pjs and loaded up an episode of House on the computer.
Thirty minutes later I started to get itchy. I was freaking out. Thought maybe I had just got bit by something or had lice or worse I could have whatever the people on the show had! Then I decided I was just sweaty because I’ve been breaking a fever off and on for the past few days. I’ll just take a shower and then go to bed. But when I rounded the corner to get to the shower I saw my reflection in the bathroom mirror. I was a giant red puffy mass!
I freaked out and ran to my neighbor Chie-Wie. She saw me and screamed. That made me panic even more. She got a friend that could speak French, Juan Pablo, and threw me in the car. Juan saw my allergy and got me the French version of Benadryl, which I took before we got in the car. Thank goodness because I was starting to not be able to breath. Once we got to the ER my new Hero spoke some quick French and I got taken care of right away.
It’s been one crazy week.
Yesterday I went back to my doctor in town to get alternative medications for the cold and I still have to take the medication the ER doctor gave me. I’m getting better but I’ve really started to slack on this blog.
I took this adventure a while back and I’ve been meaning to post it. Better late than never. Here is Sainte-Radegonde.
There were two gargoyles on the front of this church, one male and one female. My brilliant little sister told me that gargoyles on churches where put there to send a message to the common people.
A long time back most people couldn’t read so images where used to get ideas across. A gargoyle on a church was meant to scare people into coming to church. As if to say that If you don’t come to church this is what will happen to you. They were also put on churches to keep other evil things out!
The grand entrance was a breath taking sight.
And of course I got to add a few more stain glass photo’s to my new addiction.
There were many pictures of the Virgin Mary and baby Jesus. I didn’t take pictures of all of them. Frankly I’m getting a little tired of taking pictures of the world’s many Marys. It’s so common to have a slew of different ones all under one roof. I did see this picture of Mary and Jesus that was a bit different. This one I did take a picture of. It’s a bit sad but just reminds you that Mary was a lady with a son, not just vessel. She must have held Him no matter how old He got, just like our moms hold us.
The paintings on the walls are so nice and lively.
Then I found tile work. I know the picture was taken upside down but when I flipped it on the computer it gave me vertigo so it’s going to stay like this for right now! Haha.
Then I went down to the crypt! This is the tomb of Radegonde. When she was a baby her evil uncle, Hermanfrid, killed her father and took her as a wife! He then made a treaty with the Frankish King Theuderic for help to kill and take over his other brother’s land. After he succeeded he broke the treaty and ruled wouldn’t let Theuderic have any control over the land.
So the king got his brother, Clotaire l, and killed Hermanfrid. Clotaire l then took Radegonde as his wife. She was only 9 at that time but she was his sixth wife! She never gave him children, wouldn’t act like a princess and he kept telling people that he had married a nun.
So she begged him for her release. He finally granted her wish but killed her only remaining family member, a brother, before he let her go. She ran away and formed this nunnery. This was her home, her safe house and her only reason to live. She died at the age of 66 and was buried under the church she created.
I asked the nun that was hanging around If I could go upstairs with her to the organ room. But I got a no on this one. See I don’t sneak around if I’m being watched. I’m a good girl. There was also a stain glass window detailing the life of Radegonde but I couldn’t see all of it from where I was standing. That’s one of the reasons I really wanted to go up to the massive organ room. Oh well. I’ll just have to go another day and sneak myself up there.
Back here I found a little donut shop. What is a donut shop doing at the back of a church? Who knows. Anyway I had to get a little donut man. Best man I’ve ever had. He was sweet, tender and didn’t give me any flack when I bit his head off! I plan to have more adventures soon. We have a week long break coming up. Please pray I get over this crazy cold / flu whatever I’ve got soon!
